You don't need to be flexible: therapeutic yoga for the "stiff," the tired, and the overwhelmed

In many cultures, we are raised to believe that entry into any space requires a certain level of mastery; we must be the athlete to join the gym, the artist to pick up the brush, the flexible to step onto the mat. Some of us who are fortunate enough to have housekeeping services clean our homes before the service provider arrives.
There is a quiet, unsettling irony in the idea that one must already possess the very thing they are seeking.
I believe the invitation into wellness shouldn't feel like a performance. Get Even Yoga speaks to the "stiff," the ones who feel their bodies have become a series of locked doors; the tired, those whose fatigue has moved into their bones; and the overwhelmed, where the noise of the world has become a constant, vibrating hum in the mind.
You do not need to be flexible to begin. In fact, the stiffness is exactly where the work starts.
the myth of the perfect shape
The modern world has turned yoga into a gallery of impossible shapes. We see images of bodies twisted into geometries that feel alien to our own lived experience; we see a mastery of the external that often ignores the internal landscape. It is easy to look at a standard, large-group studio class and think, not here.
When the body says "not here," it is usually protecting something.
Perhaps it is protecting a back that has carried the weight of a decade’s stress. Perhaps it is protecting a mind that is currently navigating the choppy waters of burnout or anxiety. In these moments, forcing a shape is not just difficult; it is counterproductive. Therapeutic yoga is not about contorting the body into shapes; it is about reaching the parts of yourself that have been ignored.

the power of the pause
There is a specific kind of magic in the middle—the in-between. We often focus on the beginning: the decision to change, or the end: the result of that change. But life is lived in the messy, quiet middle. My private yoga sessions are designed to hold space for that middle ground.
In a one-on-one setting, the focus shifts. The goal is no longer to keep up with the person on the mat next to you. There is no mat next to you. There is only the breath, the ground beneath you, and a collaborative guide who meets you exactly where you are today. Not where you were yesterday. Not where you hope to be next month. Just here, in the present moment. The only moment.
We use the power of the breath and restorative yoga poses to relieve stress and communicate with the nervous system. It receives the message: You are safe. You can let go. This is a process of unlearning. We unlearn the habit of bracing against the world. We unlearn the need to be "good" at a pose. Instead, we become practitioners of the pause.
WHEN THE MIND IS OVERWHELMED
Overwhelm is a physical sensation. It is a tightening in the chest, a shallow breath, a jaw that never quite relaxes. For those seeking yoga for anxiety and stress, the expected approach of "pushing through" can often trigger more distress.
I help you to choose a different path.
My approach to personalized therapeutic yoga is a partnership. It is a dialogue between practitioner and client, a shared investigation into what the body needs in this particular moment. Sometimes, that means staying in a single supported pose for minutes, letting the body's weight be fully supported by the earth. Sometimes, it means small, micro-movements that slowly remind the joints how to move without fear.
The goal is therapeutic outcome: pain relief, emotional balance, a sense of coming home to yourself.

THE GROUND BENEATH US
The tools we use are as intentional as the movements themselves. We believe that the environment, the very textures we touch, contributes to the healing process. This is why we partnered with Maitreya to offer handwoven, organic cotton yoga mats.
There is a difference between a mass-produced plastic mat and something woven by hand with intention. The cotton feels honest. It feels grounded. When you step onto a Maitreya mat, you are connecting to a tradition of sustainability and care. It is a physical reminder that the journey of wellness is also a journey of ethical connection to the world around us.
Stiffness is not an obstacle. It is a map. Fatigue is not a failure. It is a signal.

BECOMING THE OBSERVER
In the stillness of a private session, we begin to notice the nuances of our own presence. We notice how the breath catches when we think of a deadline. We notice how the shoulders drop when we finally give ourselves permission to do nothing.
This is the "becoming." It is not a transformation into a different person, but a shedding of the layers that no longer serve us.
We invite you to sit with the idea that you are already enough. You don't need to be "better" to deserve care. You don't need to be "fitter" to seek balance. Whether you are dealing with chronic pain, navigating the fog of burnout, or simply looking for a quiet space to breathe, our doors, and our mats, are open.
There is a peace waiting for you in the middle of the mess. It is quiet. It is still. It is yours.
If you feel the call to move toward a more balanced version of yourself, we invite you to reach out to us. Let’s find that space together.
